Rosies Robots Summer update 9 17

National Robotics Week at the Rochester Museum and Science Center

                                          This day was really fun. The girls i am talking to in
                                          this photo are girl scouts.

                                          I love to talk to people and show them how cool
                                          robots can be.

                                          Talking to people that are the same age as me is a
                                          lot easier because i know what they should
                                          understand.

XYZ Printing Bolide Robot Unboxing, Build Photos, and Video Review

What I've Been Up To Recently and The Rochester Mini Maker Faire

Fredonia Mini Maker Faire

At Fredonia I had a crowd of people around my booth for some of the faire. It was fun to talk to people about my robots, but at the end of the faire I had no voice left. I had a talk at Fredonia it wasn't as large of a crowd I had hoped for but it was a quite room  were I could show people my voice activated robot.

Barnes and Noble Maker Faire

 I was invited to the Barns and Nobles maker fair when I was at Fredonia. I gave out allot of Rochester maker fair cards.

The Rochester maker faire is the biggest mini maker faire I have both at all year.  Last year I had a both at the fair and it was  a lot of fun, so I hope it is fun this year to.  I will be both 93 at the Rochester Mini Maker Faire.

Summer Curriculum Camp Presentation

I was asked to do a presentation on my robots for teachers at a summer curriculum camp at the Cattaraugus Allegany BOCES.  I gave an hour presentation and answered a lot of questions about the robots and what I have learned building them.

 I really enjoy sharing the different robots that I have made and trying to get more people to do them in schools.  Here is a link to my presentation that I made to help show the different robots I have made

Meccano Meccanoid G15-KS

I took a bit of a summer break from writing for my blog, but now I need to share some of the projects I worked on during my  time off. 

 My Meccanoid robot  didn't have good directions on how to put it together.  Sometimes you would have to go back and take one step apart because the directions did not explain it that well.   You would have to pay close attention to the drawings because that’s all the directions really gave you, and sometimes they were hard to see.   It was quite confusing but when it was finished, it could do a lots of impressive things.    It knew how to tango and do ballet, responded to my voice, and told jokes.  It took me about 12 hours to put together but on the box it said for ages 10 and up.

Now into the positives.  One positive thing about it would be that he does have some very impressive skills end I can also program him using only motions.  I think it is pretty cool that I can control him with my phone.  You can also by extra  servos to put on him and the extra  servos will allow him  to move more like an actual human.   His knees do not Bend which is good because if they did the robot would be even more expensive than it already is because it would have to have a bunch of sensors say it's going off balance or something like that.

When we got the meccanoid, his “brain” was dead so we called the company and they sent us a new one quickly and then later we lost the power cord and the company set us a new power cord without charging at all, which was great customer support.

   You can also take apart the “human-like” meccanoid, and rebuild it as a dinosaur. I think that's pretty cool because when you make the dinosaur his tail will actually wag back and forth.   I think it looks sort of like a velociraptor when you put it into dinosaur  forum.  I  brought it into school and all my friends thought it was cool.  Most of my friends don't like robotics that much but  they liked meccanoid.                                                                                                                                          

             

My Robotic Arm Project

 I have recently finished a OWI Robotic Arm Edge kit. This robot is capable of picking up small objects like a screwdriver. This robot was really fun to do! The reason I really enjoyed this robot was because I am very much interested in creating prosthetics someday, but this robot is good for anyone who likes robots. This robot was a bit difficult and it took me about about five hours over three days to finish.  After you finish this robot it is really fun to play with and see how it moves.

Soldering Tips with Solder : Time Soldering Kit

When you solder you must be careful. If you are not careful you could burn yourself. So,here are some solder tips. When you solder you should always have one inch of solder.

 I have recently built a watch with my solder. 

It was a really fun project. I finally got more experience with a soldering iron. I always have at lest one inch of solder between my fingers and the soldering iron.

It is also important to have good directions. In the project I recently did it had really good online directions. The project is called "Solder:Time". This is a great kit for beginners. This was also my third soldering kit.
